Home Improvement Store Announces Job Losses
A large building supplies chain, which operates in Ireland, has announced it is to cut up to 150 jobs across its stores, due to the slowdown in the housing sector.
The plumbing, heating and builders supply stores Heat Merchants, Tubs and Tiles and Brooks, owned by Wolseley, have told employees the company is seeking to introduce 150 voluntary or compulsory lay-offs throughout its 100 outlets.
The company's head office, based in Athlone, has refused to make any further comment, but is expected to make a more detailed announcement later today.
Wolseley trades from its Electric Merchants stores in the Republic, as well as Northern Ireland.
During the last five year the firm recruited 600 new staff, to support the demand in the construction sector.

IKEA Announces 'Temp' Jobs
The Swedish furnishing retailer, IKEA has announced plans to hire 100 temporary workers at its new store in Dublin. The retailer said that the move follows the "overwhelming consumer response to the opening of the store" last month. The jobs will initially be for a two-month period, but may be made permanent if the current demand continues.

Global business process outsourcing company, Concentrix Corporation, has launched a recruitment drive after securing new business within the technology and gadgets sector.
