Belfast's weekend movie tribute spies ‘The King’
It will be a case of shakin’, but definitely not stirred for the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll when he meets the King of Cool in an Elvis v Bond movie showcase this weekend at St George’s Market.
Belfast City Council, in association with Translink, will be marking the 25th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley this week with a special screening of what many regard as the definitive rockumentary, 'That’s The Way It Is' on Friday. Doors will open at 8.30pm with music, food and drink available before the King hits the screen at 9.30pm. After the movie the party will continue with a live Elvis tribute band. The first 50 turning up in theme dress will win a free drink voucher - so get out the blue suede shoes, the Elvis wig, and that bow-legged hip-shakin' swagger.
On Saturday, August 17, the greatest secret agent of them all takes over the silver screen, with the Bond classic 'Goldfinger' being shown to mark the 40th Anniversary of Ian Fleming's archetypal spy. Doors open at 8.30pm to build up to the screen time of 9.30pm. Again to capture the suave 007 spirit after the event there will be live ‘movie’ music from The Tuxedos. Free drinks are on offer to the first 50 to appear in theme dress, so don the tuxedo and pull out the wet suit. The organizers also want traditional ‘Bond Girls’ to join in the fun, so dig out the evening dresses and the cat suits.
Appropriately, given the weather, the children’s entertainment with a special matinee performance on Saturday - starting at 2.30pm - will be 'Cats And Dogs'.
No tickets are required for any of the above events, but there is a charge of £3 (£1 for children attending the Saturday matinee) at the door.

Older Women To Get Breast Scans
Women up to the age of 70 will be invited for breast screening under new plans just announced by NI Health Minister Michael McGimpsey. Up to now only women aged between 50 and 64 have been routinely invited to attend screening. Currently approximately 150,000 women are invited for screening.

Full primary HPV testing has been officially introduced to the cervical screening pathway, bringing Northern Ireland into line with the rest of the UK and Republic of Ireland. Between 2016 and 2020 in NI, an average of 81 people were diagnosed with cervical cancer each year, and there were around 21 deaths from cervical cancer annually.

Primary HPV testing is to be fully introduced in a major boost to Northern Ireland's Cervical Screening Programme. The Department of Health (DoH) has confirmed that they are on course for the full introduction of primary HPV testing, which is more sensitive than cytology-based screening, by December 2023.
