Loyalist Commission meets Lord Mayor over sectarian strife
Loyalist representatives have met Belfast's Sinn Fein Lord Mayor Alex Maskey in order to ease sectarian tensions throughout the city.
Members of the Ulster Political Research Group, including John White, met Mr Maskey as part of their efforts to set up a working group to tackle sectarianism in interface areas.
Mr Maskey described the talks as "significant" and said there had been meaningful dialogue.
Mr White welcomed the meeting but warned that sectarian violence on a street level had the "capacity to undermine all the conflict resolution work" that had taken place in Northern Ireland.
However he said that loyalists were determined to bring about an end to the violence in flashpoint areas despite security forces implicating loyalists in much of the trouble.
Also attending the meeting were trade union representatives, councillors and clergymen.
The Loyalist Commission includes Protestant clergy, politicians and representatives from three paramilitary groups, the Ulster Volunteer Force, the Ulster Defence Association and the Red Hand Commando.

Graduate Entry Medical Students To Benefit From Tuition Fee Loans
Economy Minister Conor Murphy has announced that from the 2025/26 academic year, students enrolled in the Graduate Entry Medical School at Ulster University's Derry-Londonderry campus will be eligible for tuition fee loans. Previously, graduate entry medical students were unable to access government loans to cover tuition fees.

Pharmacist Sentenced For Drug Offences
A 27-year-old pharmacist from Belfast has been sentenced to 180 hours of community service for unlawfully possessing and stealing controlled prescription drugs. Adam Hanna pleaded guilty to charges under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the Theft Act 1969. The offences took place at a North Belfast pharmacy between January and March 2024.

Church, Nursing Home And Houses Targeted In Sectarian Attack
Sectarian graffiti and paramilitary slogans have been daubed on the walls of a church, nursing home and houses in west Belfast. St Columba's Church and the Cairnmartin facility in the Ballygomartin Road area were sprayed with slogans in the early hours of Monday morning, 20 June. Police are treating the attack as a sectarian hate crime.

Three Remanded Over Antrim Assault
Sectarianism is back in focus with three men charged with the attempted murder of a teenager in Antrim on Friday in court today (Monday). Nathan Wilson, 20, of Birch Hill Meadows, Colin Kingsberry, 23, from Carntall Gardens and Kyle Green, 23, from Kilgreel Road were all remanded in custody.

Local political representatives spent two-hours locked in Stormont talks aimed at tackling 'interface' violence. The meeting, which was chaired by NIO Minister, Des Browne was attended by all but three of the local political parties. It follows escalation of violence at sectarian interfaces, especially in north Belfast, over past months.
