Co Down man stabbed outside London pub

A Northern Ireland man was stabbed to death in north London at the weekend.

Thomas Breen, from Downpatrick, Co Down, was drinking with a friend in Camden Town when he was involved in an altercation with two men outside a pub. In the ensuing fight, Mr Breen received a fatal stab wound. The 50-year-old was taken to Royal Free Hospital, but died a short time later. Mr Breen's friend was admitted to hospital but was discharged shortly afterwards.

Thomas Breen had been commuting to London in order to find work.

The victim's son, Stephen, described the attackers as "thugs and cowards" and said that the family were struggling to come to terms with the tragic news.

"All my family want now is to see justice served and the people responsible for my father's murder brought to book," he said.

"This is a tragic event to have befallen my family and one which we are still struggling to come to terms with."

Police said that the killing was "unprovoked and brutal".
