Trouble Flares In Belfast

An arrest was made after violent clashes at the Springfield/Shankill interface in Belfast which forced police to shut Lanark Way security gates on the peaceline at the weekend. Bricks, bottles and lumps of wood were used as missiles when trouble escalated after a crowd of loyalists from Highfield were alleged to have confronted people taking part in a 'political tour' on Sunday.

Suspect Device

Co Fermanagh security forces remain on high alert this morning as a security operation continued overnight following the discovery of a suspicious object, near Rosslea. Police said on Sunday night that they would try to minimise disruption to local community during the operation and have appealed to people to report any suspicious activity they may have seen in the area recently, and not to approach or touch anything suspicious. The object was found on Rellan Road following reports of a loud bang on Saturday.

Biker Hurt

A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a road traffic accident at Portrush, County Antrim, on Sunday. His motorcycle was in collision with a jeep on the Dunluce Road shortly before 10.30pm. The driver of the jeep was also been taken to hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Healy Gong

Northern Ireland footballer David Healy has received the MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to football and the community. The leading goal scorer had also recently received a special award from Uefa President Michel Platini after scoring a record 13 goals during the Euro 2008 qualifiers.

Sex Charge Cop Freed

A police officer arrested last week in connection with an alleged brothel has been released without any charge, but pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service. A Malaysian woman arrested alongside Police Service of Northern Ireland Constable Chris Murdoch earlier this week has been charged with running a brothel, but another woman from the south east Asian country was also released pending a report being forwarded to the PPS. The trio were taken into custody following searches in the Coleraine and Castlerock areas.

Two Arrested After 'Suspicious Activity'
Two men have been arrested by police following reports of suspicious activity in the North Circular Road area of Belfast. Police attended the scene and arrested two males on suspicion of burglary and possession of class A and B drugs. No further information is available.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Police Ombudsman Issues Appeal Regarding West Belfast Arrest
An appeal for witnesses regarding the arrest of a man in west Belfast has been issued by the Police Ombudsman. The man was arrested by police in the Beechview Park of the Falls Road at approximately 1am on Sunday, October 6.

Man Dies Following Tyrone Weekend Crash
A man who was involved in a car crash in Tyrone at the weekend has died in hospital. Lindley Houston, 21, was injured when the car he was travelling in crashed on the Culvacullion Road in Plumbridge in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of George Gilmore
A 39-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the murder of George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore, aged 44, was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday, 13 March. He died from his injuries in hospital the following day, 14 March. The suspect was detained in Co Antrim on Wednesday, 12 April, and is being questioned at Musgrave police station.
