Police raid banknote counterfeiting operation

Police have seized £250,000 worth of counterfeit banknotes in Newtownabbey.

Two men were also arrested after the PSNI's Serious Crime Squad discovered the notes during a raid on a house on Tuesday.

The forged notes included euros, Bank of England and local bank notes.

Police, who pounced on the the illegal printing operation while it was underway, said "sophisticated technology" was being used to process the notes.

Further searches are to be conducted by police who believe they may come across more forged notes. Police do not believe there is paramilitary involvement in the racket.
