Housing Executive reveal £57m spending plan
The Housing Executive is to pump around £57 million worth of funding into improving housing conditions in Belfast over the next year.
In its annual expenditure plans revealed yesterday, the Executive confirmed that the funding would improve housing in areas of need such as the lower Newtownards Road, Connswater, New Lodge and Turf Lodge.
Chief Executive Paddy McIntyre confirmed that about £3.8 million would be put towards adaptations for residents with special needs.
Mr McIntyre also said further work would be put into drawing up a co-ordinated approach in tackling the particular needs of the west Belfast and greater Shankill areas.
He also hit out at the continued civil unrest in parts of Belfast which, he said, was hampering the Executive's ability to deliver its programmes of work.

Sinn Féin Housing Spokesperson Carál Ní Chuilín has written to the Chief Executive of the Housing Executive Board seeking clarity on their plans for Tower Blocks in north Belfast. The North Belfast MLA said: "There are 33 Tower blocks across the north, seven of which are in the New Lodge area of North Belfast.

From a trainee with the Northern Ireland Housing Trust in 1971 to Chief Executive of the NI Housing Executive in 1999, Paddy has had a long and distinguished career in housing.
