Construction industry output slows
The latest edition of the 'Northern Ireland Construction Bulletin' has shown that industry output fell by 10% during the first quarter of 2002.
The figures, published by the Central Survey Unit of the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency for the period 1 January to 31 March 2002, show various key findings for the quarter. These include a decrease of 8% in the estimated seasonally adjusted value of construction output, which now stands at £428 million. This is 10% lower than in the corresponding quarter in 2001.
The seasonally adjusted Index of New Work was 117.8, representing a decrease of 16.8 points on the quarter ending 31 December 2001, and 13.9 points down on the quarter ending 31 March 2001. The seasonally adjusted Index of Repair and Maintenance was 80.6, up 13.2 points on the previous quarter - but down 2.5 points for the same quarter in 2001.
The seasonally adjusted Index of Housing also showed negative output, standing at 92.1 – a fall of 6.1 points on the last quarter and down 8.0 points on the corresponding quarter in 2001.

NI Sees Increase In House Purchase Loans

The 2,500 house purchase loans, worth £240 million, increased 4% by number and value from the third quarter of the year.

According to the Northern Ireland Quarterly Enquiry (QCE) for the period 1 July to 30 September 2007, the Index of Construction is down 3.8 points on the previous quarter.
