Yacht Rescued Off Co Down
A dramatic rescue was in progress this morning after a yacht with three people on board began taking in water after losing its rudder and suffering engine problems off the southern coast of Northern Ireland.
After an emergency call about 7am a lifeboat from Kilkeel endured heavy seas to quickly reach the stricken vessel and by 8.30am had been able to report being off station at the yacht.
Latest reports from the BBC, who have been talking to the Watch Commander at Kilkeel said that all three people onboard are safe and that arrangements are in hand to tow the yacht to safer waters for repairs.
The vessel will be taken in tow once the Irish Clogherhead lifeboat reaches the scene, an RNLI spokesman said.
The vessel suffered engine trouble about 12 miles south east of Kilkeel, Co Down in heavy seas, rain and stormy conditions.
The vessel was on it way to Dublin from the Isle of Man when the emergency happened.
