250 New Athlone Medical Plant Jobs
An American manufacturer has announced the creation of 250 Athlone-based jobs.
Medical devices producer Abiomed has confirmed plans for a new plant located in the midlands.
Three new production lines will be set-up at the Athlone site, which will complement current operations in Germany.
It is expected the business will integrate itself into the area over the next 18 months.
Abiomed will move into a plant previously occupied by medical supplier Conormed.
It is hoped the firm will fill the vacuum of unemployment created by Conormed, which closed last year, resulting in 200 job losses.
