Arrests Follow RAF Aldergrove 'Hot Pursuit'

There were amazing scenes in Co Antrim today during what has been described as "a breach of security" at RAF Aldergrove.

Described in some reports as being linked to an earlier sexual assault and the theft of a car, the vehicle crashed through a security fence into the base on Tuesday morning and was then pursued inside the base, before the occupants managed to drive away again, at which point the PSNI took over, although the breach is being investigated by both the military and the PSNI.

According to the latest reports, the car spent several minutes in the base before being driven back through the gap in the torn fence.

It is understood the incident happened at a quiet part of the base well away from the main gate and that the intruder or intruders were monitored while inside.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman confirmed there had been a breach of security which was being investigated.

The PSNI's own helicopter was understood to be coordinating an earlier search for the vehicle involved, which has now been recovered in north Belfast - followed by the arrest of two men on the nearby Crumlin Road.

Police have appealed for information, especially in respect of an alleged rape in Crumlin, Co Antrim, which is thought to be linked to the bizarre events.
