250 Jobs In Doubt At Waterford's Stoke-on-Trent Plant
Waterford Wedgewood has confirmed it is seeking to cut 250 jobs at its Stoke-on-Trent site.
This latest announcement has came as over 500 jobs remain in the balance at the firm's Kilbarry plant, which is undergoing a rationalisation programme.
The firm is expected to retain around 500 employees at its Waterford crystal plant, when the redundancy programme is complete.
During the last financial year the group lost €241m, this figure jumped from €70m recorded the previous year.
After the figures were published the firm refused to comment on the security of jobs.
The firm has now said talks with staff at Stoke-on-Trent are taking place.
It has been reported the 250 jobs under threat could be transferred to Indonesia.
Over the past decade the UK has lost thousands of pottery jobs to Indonesia, where cost are cheaper.
This makes the destination an attractive prospect for firms like VW who are looking to save money.
The group's shares increased slightly yesterday, but according to commentators, remain out of favour with investors.
