Local woman drowns on Spanish holiday

A Northern Ireland woman has drowned while on holiday in Spain.

Maura Lisa O’Neill, 27, from the Ballyvoy area near Ballycastle in County Antrim, was reportedly on a hen party in the country.

She was found dead in a swimming pool on Saturday July 5.

Spanish police are investigating the death and a post mortem is expected to be carried out.

It is understood that Ms O’Neill worked in her father’s Ballycastle pub, The House of McDonnell.

Spanish police have arrested a man in connection with the bombing of an army barracks in Lisburn eight years ago. Michael Gerard Rogan, 44, from Easton Avenue in north Belfast, was arrested in the holiday resort of Playa de las Americas in Tenerife on Monday.

NI Tourism More Than Doubles Since GFA Signing

The figures show that since the Good Friday Agreement was signed, visits to tourism attractions have risen from 7.5 million in 1998 to 16.5 million.
