41 Banking Jobs Go Across Ireland

A subsidiary of global banking giant HSBC has decided to pull out of Ireland, resulting in 41 job losses.

HFC Bank offered personal loans and insurance products from seven branches in Dublin, Kildare, Limerick and Galway.

The bank said it would be contacting existing customers in the coming days to inform them of their decision to cease business.

The move has been taken following a review of the bank's operations in the country.

The decision has now been made to focus the bank’s services in the UK.

According to HFC Bank UK's Chief Executive, Richard Spence, the Irish subsidiary was the only part of the business not working with sterling.

Mr Spence said the bank had failed to endure the costs associated with currency changes.
