'Cook-Books At Dawn' As Top Chefs Square-Up
Two of the country's top chefs are to bring together their own distinctive cooking styles in a unique live challenge later this month.
As part of this month's Food and Drink Festival, Belfast's own Paul Rankin will join forces with Scotland's Nick Nairn to create a special menu made entirely from ingredients sourced from the city's St. George's Market.
On Saturday 20 September, 'Market Fusion' will see the two friends, and rivals, coming together to cook up mouth-watering delights from ingredients which, in the best tradition of television cookery challenges, they will be given only a few minutes earlier.
Speaking ahead of the unique challenge, Paul Rankin (pictured) commented: "This is a mouth-watering prospect. Ireland and Scotland are both known for the quality of their ingredients and their cuisine: to bring these two styles of cooking together in one menu is something to which both Nick and I are really looking forward to."
Later that afternoon, Paul Rankin and Nick Nairn will be giving a pair of masterclasses at the popular 'Garden Gourmet' festival in Botanic Gardens.
'Market Fusion' is the highlight of a new initiative, 'Elevenses at St. George's Market', which will see local market traders sharing some of their secrets with shoppers in a series of live demonstrations, each Saturday morning throughout September.
In addition to this, special festival lunch and dinner menus will be available in many of Belfast's restaurants, bars and hotels
