Local companies jet off to Farnborough Airshow
Local companies are putting the finishing touches to their preparations for the Farnborough International Airshow later this month.
The Northern Ireland representation is a joint initiative between Invest Northern Ireland (Invest NI) and the Northern Ireland Aerospace Consortium (NIAC).
This is the second time that a group of Northern Ireland companies has had a collaborative stand presence at Farnborough International Airshow.
Explaining the reasoning behind the collaboration, NIAC Chairman, Dr Paul Madden said: "In 2000, the positive feedback received encouraged the members of the Consortium, not only to return to Farnborough International Airshow this year, but to exhibit at the Paris Airshow last year.
"International exhibitions such as Farnborough and Paris present an ideal opportunity for Northern Ireland companies to collectively promote their capabilities and skills on a global platform alongside major players such as BAE SYSTEMS, Airbus and Boeing."
The Invest NI/ NIAC stand comprises SMEs, large companies and inward investors offering products and services in areas such as aerostructures, components and equipment, research, software and design and plastics and composites.
In its 54th year, Farnborough International Airshow has been described as a magnet in the aviation calendar with over 1000 exhibitors. In the year 2000 orders to the value of £35 billion were announced.
Alan Hingston, Invest NI's Trade Director added: "The message that companies must constantly widen their horizons to ensure growth and improve their competitiveness is getting through to businesses none more so than in the aerospace sector. Farnborough provides an opportunity for our companies to showcase their products, services and capabilities on a world stage."
Invest NI has also commissioned an independent report to facilitate the development of a strategy to secure the future of the local aerospace industry.
NIAC is the aerospace trade body in Northern Ireland, founded in 1998 to promote, maintain and further cooperation amongst the members for their mutual benefit.
