Strabane Civil Servant Told To Remove GAA Flag From Car

A Strabane civil servant was asked to take down a GAA flag displayed in her car, following a complaint made by a colleague, it has been revealed.

The car, parked outside the town's benefits office on Wednesday, displayed a Tyrone GGA flag.

The owner, a social security agency employee, was asked to remove the emblem by bosses.

The agency said it took the decision in recognition of its legal duty to maintain a neutral workplace.

However a Strabane GAA representative has blasted the move, claiming the flag was in no way offensive.

Aodhan Harkin of Sigersons said "I thought we had started to move on in this country,

"We accept everybody else's cultures but we can't accept our own.

"I think there's something drastically wrong if somebody's offended by a Tyrone flag," he added.
