Man Bailed Over Nairac Death
The man charged in May with the kidnap and false imprisonment of an army undercover officer, Captain Robert Nairac three decades ago, has this week appeared in court.
The military intelligence officer, 29, who was originally from Gloucestershire, was taken near the Three Steps Inn, Dromintee and murdered soon afterwards, though his body was never found.
In court on Wednesday, Kevin Crilly, 57, from Foughill Road in Jonesborough, south Armagh, was remanded on bail to reappear in court again at the end of October.
Mr Crilly was arrested in the village of Jonesborough, South Armagh earlier this year, many years after six other men were convicted for their part in the killing, including three for murder.
The victim, who was believed to have been captured by the IRA in May 1977 and then taken across the border into a forest in the Irish Republic and shot dead, was working undercover for an army unit known as 14 Intelligence Company. He was aged just 29.
Two years after his murder, the Queen approved the award of the George Cross to the British soldier.

The Board, which published its aims in its new Corporate Plan for the period 1 April 2005 – 31 March 2008, said it wants to improve on ‘Effectiveness, Efficiency and Public Confidence’.

Murder Charge Over SAS Death
A man from Co Armagh has been charged with the murder of British Army officer Robert Nairac. The undercover soldier was killed more than 32 years ago, and this week, Kevin Crilly, 59, from Lower Foughill Road, Jonesborough, has been charged with the murder and two counts of kidnapping and false imprisonment.
