Movilla School Strike - Talks To Begin
The Labour Relations Agency is to hold talks between the Education Board and teachers on strike at a Newtownards high school.
Teaching staff at Movilla High School walked out on Monday.
Some members of staff had refused to teach a child who allegedly assaulted one of their colleagues.
School governors decided not to expel the boy, a move supported by the Education Board, which said the incident has been "appropriately and proportionately dealt with".
The Principal subsequently docked staffs’ wages.
Today the NAS/UWT union will reportedly meet with the South Eastern Education Library Board, after agreeing a form of words that will open-up discussions.
Classes have been cancelled since Monday but it is now hoped pupils will be able to return to the school tomorrow.
Education Minister Caitríona Ruane had earlier called for a resolution to the walkout.
NAS/UWT representatives said morale on the picket line was high and the teachers have received plenty of support.
"We've have a very good response from the general public and other teachers generally," said the union's Fred Brown.
