Junior minister visits 2001 Charter Mark winners
James Leslie, Minister in the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister has praised government agencies in Ballymena and Ballymoney for winning a Charter Mark Award.
The Housing Executive’s Ballymena District Office and Ballymoney JobCentre and Social Security Agency Office all received a Charter Mark award in the UK-wide scheme last year, which identifies and recognises excellent public services.
Mr Leslie said: “Charter Mark is a rigorous test for any public organisation, and one that evaluates in minute detail how it carries out its business and how well it adapts to changing demands. The Housing Executive’s Ballymena District Office is to be congratulated on its success in meeting these demanding Charter Mark standards.”
In a separate visit to Ballymoney, Mr Leslie said: “The very welcome fall in unemployment in the Ballymoney area is clear evidence of the effective work being done in the JobCentre. I am very impressed with everything which is being done to help people get into work.
“I welcome the initiative to put the JobCentre and Social Security Agency under one roof, as their activities are so complementary.
“Public services play a vital role for everyone in Northern Ireland, touching the lives of all throughout the community. By winning the Charter Mark the staff in all of these agencies have demonstrated clearly a ‘quality benchmark’ to which every public service provider should aspire.”
192 organisations in Northern Ireland hold a Charter Mark at present, with 64 gaining the award in 2001 scheme.

Economy Minister Conor Murphy has launched the Business Innovation Grant (BIG), a new £4.3 million initiative designed to stimulate innovation and enhance productivity among Northern Irish businesses. The scheme, developed by Invest Northern Ireland and delivered in partnership with Innovate NI, is open to micro-businesses, sole traders, and SMEs.
