Bomb alert at Maghaberry prison over
Visits to a jail in Northern Ireland resumed this morning following a bomb alert earlier in the day.
Staff at Maghaberry prison, near Lisburn, County Antrim became concerned this morning after they received a suspect package.
A similar package was also delivered to the Young Offenders Centre in Hydebank Wood in south Belfast.
However Prison Service spokesman Mark McCaffrey said both packages, which contained radios, have been declared safe and that visits to Maghaberry would resume this afternoon.
Meanwhile a man has died after a multiple car accident in County Antrim. The victim was the driver of one of the cars involved in the smash on the Drones Road near Armoy.
One other person was injured and is being treated in hospital as a result of the road traffic accident which happened around 9.30pm last night.

A 53-year-old has reportedly died in custody at Maghaberry Prison, the Northern Ireland Prison Service has announced. The Department of Justice has reported that the prisoner died on Saturday 28 August, that his next of kin have been informed and that the death was not covid related.

The PSNI, Coroner and Prisoner Ombudsman have been informed about the death.

Staff at Maghaberry Prison in Lisburn have been criticised after they failed to intervene while a prisoner blinded himself, according to a Prison Ombudsman report. Sean Lynch, 23, was being detained at the prison in June 2014 and inflicted "extreme and shocking" injuries through self-harm over a three day period.

Man Arrested Over Prison Officer Murder
A 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Maghaberry prison officer David Black. Police have confirmed detectives investigating the murder arrested the man in Lurgan, County Armagh. He is currently being questioned at Antrim police station.
