Top Bollywood Group Hits NI
The biggest Bollywood group in the UK is coming to Newtownabbey next month.
Their colourful performance will be the highlight of a major event being organised by Northern Ireland's multi-ethnic arts organisation, Artsekta, showcasing its annual Diwali (Festival of Lights).
The celebration - in partnership with the University of Ulster in Newtownabbey - is a popular Hindu festival that marks the celebration of the Indian New Year.
The Mayor of Newtownabbey Borough - who is also supporting the initiative along with the Newtownabbey District Policing Partnership - will officially inaugurate this event in the University of Ulster in Jordanstown (3pm, Sunday 2nd November).
The stage in the main campus' assembly hall will come to life with Bollywood-style dancers and genuine Bhangra music and dance as well as a showcase of local artistic talent.
The UK's no. 1 Bollywood group 'Desi Brave Hearts' and renowned UK Bhangra performers Nachda Sansaar will be sure to get the crowd going too, said a spokeswoman, noting that ArtsEkta has also organised a number of information stands from communities and organisations around the province.
She also noted that children's activities on the day will include face painting, international art and craft sessions, clown and juggler.
Outside the university will be a marquee featuring a food bazzar with a variety of foods from around the world and the evening will end with an amazing fireworks display at the nearby Loughshore Park.
Event organiser, Nisha Tandon commented: "We are extremely proud to be celebrating Diwali in Newtownabbey for the second time.
"Last year's event was a great success and was something that Newtownabbey had never experienced before!
"Although Diwali is traditionally an Indian festival, ArtsEkta is proud to host the event on an international level with many different cultures participating."
She also said entrance to the event is free.

Economy Minister Conor Murphy has announced that from the 2025/26 academic year, students enrolled in the Graduate Entry Medical School at Ulster University's Derry-Londonderry campus will be eligible for tuition fee loans. Previously, graduate entry medical students were unable to access government loans to cover tuition fees.

Pharmacist Sentenced For Drug Offences
A 27-year-old pharmacist from Belfast has been sentenced to 180 hours of community service for unlawfully possessing and stealing controlled prescription drugs. Adam Hanna pleaded guilty to charges under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the Theft Act 1969. The offences took place at a North Belfast pharmacy between January and March 2024.
