Four Held After Assault
A group of people have been arrested after a man and a woman were assaulted in south Belfast, police have confirmed. A 55-year-old man is being treated for facial injuries while a 29-year-old woman sustained bruising. The attack took place when six people - four men and two women - entered an address on Raby Street, off the Ormeau Road.
Poots Still 'Optimistic' About Maze Stadium
A Lisburn-based MLA and former NI Sports Minister, Edwin Poots, has said he is still 'optimistic' that a national sports stadium could be built at the Maze/Long Kesh site. Mr Poots also stressed that if the project were to be eventually withdrawn, then locals would demand a more substantial scheme for the area. However, he said his ultimate goal was to ensure a facility was constructed on the former Maze prison site, in his constituency, as originally planned. The DUP Assemblyman is the current Deputy Mayor of Lisburn City Council.
HSENI Boss Picks Up Lifetime Award
The man at the helm of the Northern Ireland Health and Safety Executive has been recognised for his achievements at a glittering awards bash in London. HSENI Chairman, Professor Peter McKie, was presented with the IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health)/Sypol Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in helping boost health and safety performance not only in Northern Ireland, but across the UK. Professor McKie said: "I am very honoured if a little flabbergasted to have received this award. Throughout my career I have always advocated the need for clear leadership from the top on safety issues."

NI project team wins top patient safety award

North-South Fire Safety Week launched
A joint north-south Fire Safety Week has been launched today by the Northern Ireland Fire Brigade and the Republic of Ireland’s National Safety Council. ‘Fire, Our Community at Risk’ aims to raise public awareness of fire safety issues, and in particular, the higher risk to the very young and elderly people living alone.
