Boots in £170m revamp programme
UK high street retailer, Boots is set to spend £170 million in revamping its stores in an attempt to boost sales.
The company plans to introduce a number of new products as well as refurbish 300 stores this year as part of a rolling four-year programme.
The company has come under pressure from rivals recently, particularly the supermarkets, and it is hoping the changes will attract more customers.
Boots made pre-tax profits of £638.7m in the year to March 2002, an increase of 9.9% compared with the previous year.
During the year Boots suspended its loss making ventures the wellbeing channel and bootsphoto.com.

Good year for Tesco as profits top £1.6bn
It has been a good year for the supermarket retailer Tesco which has seen pre-tax profits soar to £1.6 billion, according to the group's full-year preliminary statement issued today. In addition to driving up pre-tax margins by 17.6%, the company said that it had slashed its debts by £600 million, down to £4.1 billion. In the UK, sales grew by 14.

Boots announces plans to cut 2,250 jobs
Health and beauty retailer Boots has announced plans to cut 2,250 jobs from its supply chain operations over the next three years. The High Street chain is set to build a new £70 million automated warehouse in Nottingham, which will allow the chain to replace 17 regional sites with smaller lorry-docking facilities.
