Gas industry awards celebrate local business
Local businesses in the gas industry recently celebrated the success of the sector at the Northern Ireland Gas Industry Awards.
More than 300 leading gas industry representatives from across the world attended the awards at the ceremony, held in the Hilton Hotel, Templepatrick, which honoured the contribution of the province's business sector to the thriving local gas industry.
The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) scooped a major accolade, winning the Training Award. Peter Dixon - from key sponsors Phoenix Natural Gas – commented: "The CITB has played a major role in the promotion of the training needs of plumbers wanting to work within the natural gas sector. They are very proactive in encouraging training needs and fully deserve this award.
He added: "They are currently the managing agents for the grant initiative provided by the Department of Education and Learning, which enables plumbers to apply or grant funding to cover some of the costs of learning."
The awards ceremony was preceded by the annual gas industry conference, also held at the Hilton. This year's theme - "Affordable Energy On Your Doorstep" - highlighted Northern Ireland's growing fuel poverty issues and saw representatives from across the energy industry combining visions for the future, underlining the need for increased partnership between the private and public sectors on this issue.
