Reid pressed on dismissal of two Scots Guards
The mother of a teenager who was shot dead by two soldiers is to ask the Secretary of State to intervene in the campaign to have them dismissed from the British Army.
Peter McBride, 18, a father-of-two, was shot in the back as he ran away from a military patrol in north Belfast.
Scots Guardsmen Mark Wright and James Fisher each served six years of a life sentence for the murder of her son Peter McBride in 1992.
Fisher and Wright were permitted to resume their careers in their regiment following their release from prison on licence in 1998.
Jean McBride who is scheduled to meet Dr Reid at Stormont this afternoon has launched an appeal against a recent High Court ruling which held that the decision to retain the two in the army was not illegal.
Speaking before the meeting Mrs McBride said: “By retaining these two in the army the MoD and the Government have demonstrated to the world that they both condone and tolerate the murder of my son. I have a number of questions that I want answered by Dr Reid.”
