Eighty-Year-Old Robbed

A pensioner has been left badly shaken after masked robbers forced their way into his house near Lisburn and demanded money and drugs.

In the latest of a series of such attacks on the elderly, the man in his 80s was in his home in Drumbo at about 9.45pm on Monday when the men burst in. They held the elderly man in a chair and searched him, before escaping with cash and a bank card.

The gang escaped in a car. One of them is described as being well-built, with ginger hair and stubble.

Police have been dealing with a number of such burglaries in recent weeks.

At the weekend, an elderly man was beaten with a walking stick during an aggravated burglary.

At 9.50pm on Saturday last a woman living at the house in Strangford Avenue answered a knock at the door and two men pushed past her, demanding money.

The woman was struck in the face before they went into a bedroom where the man was struck about the body with a walking stick.

The men demanded money and drugs and ransacked the house before making off with a sum of cash.

Earlier this month a group of four masked men attacked a 79-year-old man in south Belfast.

He was subjected to a robbery at his Stockman's Lane home after the gang forced their way into his house and stole cash on 5 February.

Half an hour later, four men, including one armed with a hook-like object, robbed a pensioner living on Montreal Street, close to the Crumlin Road.

A 79-year-old Orient Garden resident was also robbed in his home by a group of four men.
