Jobs To Go At Kerry Foods
Kerry Foods in Co Wicklow have told its staff that scores of workers are to be axed from its plant.
A spokesman at the meat processing plant in Shillelagh, said there were significant industrial and competitive pressures at the moment.
Management made the announcement yesterday that the company is seeking to cut 70 jobs. The plant currently employs 820 people.
Frank Hayes, Director of Corporate Affairs at the Kerry Group, said: "We must maintain efficiencies with the downturn and must with regret seek 70 voluntary redundancies."
Most of the jobs are indeed expected to go as voluntary redundancies and the selection process began yesterday.
Less than two weeks ago, the company appointed a new Chairman, Phil Chapman, former marketing director for T-Mobile.

Closure Of Poultry Processing Plant 'Sad' - Unite
The closure of the poultry processing plant in Smethwick in the West Midlands on 23 June is "very sad", Unite the union has said. The 2 Sisters Food Group said that the factory at Bevan Way, Alpha Business Park is "ageing" which is the reason behind the closure.
