Alliance's Parsely To Contest MEP Seat
A young County Down businessman has been selected as the Alliance Party's candidate for the European parliamentary elections.
Ian Parsely, who currently sits on North Down council and is the incumbent deputy mayor of the borough, will make a bid for the MEP seat in June's poll.
Mr Parsely is also the Alliance Party's economy spokesman and launched his campaign with the pledge to "make Europe work" for Northern Ireland.
The 31-year-old PR executive, who represents Holywood as a councillor, said: "The many thousands of people across Northern Ireland who are disenchanted with local politics will find voice with this campaign,
"At this time of educational uncertainty, economic decline and environmental chaos, it is time for everyone who is ambitious for Northern Ireland to unite and speak with one voice, and to make that voice heard in the most powerful parliament in the world," added Mr Parsley.
The Alliance candidate will face the SDLP's Alban Maginness, the Green's Steven Agnew and DUP councillor Diane Dodds, who will all take on the Traditional Unionist Voice Leader, and incumbent MEP Jim Allister.
