Abbeycentre Security Man's Death 'Not Suspicious'
The police have this afternoon confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances behind the death of a security officer at Abbeycentre, a major Co Antrim shopping complex (pictured).
He collapsed and died yesterday while dealing with an alleged theft.
The as yet unnamed officer had just taken two youths away after staff at Abbeycentre's Toymaster store said they entered their shop and had attempted to steal goods.
The security guard collapsed shortly afterwards.
The police had been questioning two youths who have now both been released.
The PSNI said the pair had been previously "assisting them with their enquiries".
Shopping continued yesterday afternoon while two nurses who happened to be in the centre worked on the stricken victim in a room normally used as a childrens' crèche.
Two ambulances attended the scene, one of which was equipped with a defibrillator, but they were unable to revive the security officer - who was believed to be in his late 50s.
