Driver Killed In Moira Lorry Crash

A 42-year-old lorry driver has died after his vehicle overturned on the M1 onslip at Moira, County Down, police have said. His was the only vehicle involved in the accident, which was reported just after 1pm. The onslip has been closed and there are a number of diversions in the area.

Postal Arrangements St Pat's Day

The postal arrangements over the St Patrick's Day Bank Holiday on Tuesday, 17 March have been announced. Royal Mail will not be making collections or deliveries on Tuesday. Business collections will be made as arranged. Full normal service will resume on Wednesday, 18 March. Post Office branches will be closed on Tuesday, 17 March and will reopen on Wednesday. Parcelforce Worldwide will not be making collections or deliveries on Tuesday, 17 March. Full normal service will resume next day, Wednesday.

Murphy Must Aid Murder Probe, Says Quinn Family

A Sinn Féin Executive Minister has again been urged to help bring the killers of murdered south Armagh man Paul Quinn, 21, to justice. Mr Quinn was beaten to death near the border in October 2007. Members of his family held a protest at Belfast's Europa Hotel on Wednesday where Mr Murphy was holding a reception. However, Mr Quinn's father, Stephen, told the BBC they would not meet Mr Murphy until he stopped "calling their son a criminal" and gave more help to the cross-border investigation into the murder. After the killing they said that Mr Murphy claimed it was linked to criminal elements - and not IRA members as the family and many others - continue to insist is the case.

Frauds In Court

Three people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates' Court this week for claiming benefits they were not entitled to. Kyle Aiken (22) of Agnes Close, Belfast was given 75 hours community service and ordered to pay £19 court costs for duplicate encashment of Income Support totalling £165. Mandy Jackson (45) of Carnreagh Bend, Newtownabbey was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £68 court costs for failing to declare employment while claiming Income Support totalling £2,303. Roberta Dougan (51) of Vionville Way, Belfast was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £74 court costs for failing to declare employment while claiming Income Support, Incapacity Benefit and Housing Benefit totalling £2,202. All are required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency. This brings to 88 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.

Carrick Shop Robbed

An armed robber has threatened supermarket workers in Carrickfergus. He entered the shop at Hawthorne Grove at 9pm on Tuesday, carrying what appeared to be a handgun. Three workers and a customer were forced into a storeroom, where he ordered the safe to be opened. It is believed he escaped with cash. Police are seeking information on the man responsible. The robber was described as being between 5ft 8ins and 6ft tall. He was wearing a black balaclava, white hooded top, dark coat, jeans and trainers.

Accounts Count Cost Of Recession

The accountancy and consulting group KPMG is to make 20 people redundant from its Belfast operation. About 200 people will lose their jobs across Ireland, the firm has said - a reduction of 10% across the firm. The firm employs about 2,000 people in Ireland. The firm is also cutting pay to its remaining staff by between 5% and 10%.

Dump Defended

Residents in the Brandywell and Eglinton districts of greater Londonderry have said they will fight to keep their respective local civic amenity sites open. About 300 people from both areas attended public meetings on Wednesday evening to protest at propsed closures. However, Derry City Council said the sites must close in order to meet efficiency savings of £1.5m.

Cyclist Killed In North Down
A cyclist has been killed following a collision with a lorry. It is understood that the victim is male and aged in his 30s. The incident happened on the A1 carriageway outside Newry at about 20:30 on Thursday. The man died in hospital a short time after arrival. No details on the man's identity have been released.

Heavy Snow Closes Over 80 Schools
Over 80 schools across Northern Ireland have been closed as the heavy snow continues to cause disruption on Tuesday morning. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, as the snow is continuing to affect many roads. Areas which have been majorly disrupted include Lisburn, Castlereagh and Carryduff.

Police Ombudsman Issues Appeal Regarding West Belfast Arrest
An appeal for witnesses regarding the arrest of a man in west Belfast has been issued by the Police Ombudsman. The man was arrested by police in the Beechview Park of the Falls Road at approximately 1am on Sunday, October 6.

Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Indecent Exposure
A 44-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an act of indecent exposure in south Belfast. Police are investigating an incident in the Malone area at about 19:00 on Sunday evening. It is understood that the man has been arrested on suspicion of "five other counts of indecent exposure," police said.
