SDLP Assembly Member targeted by death threats
An SDLP assembly member has claimed that he has been the subject of death threats daubed on a petrol station near his home.
Graffiti attacking the Police Service of Northern Ireland and SDLP assembly member for west Tyrone Eugene McMenamin was found on the walls of a nearby petrol station. The graffiti described him as a “dead man walking”.
It comes five weeks after two cars were destroyed at Eugene McMenamin's home in Strabane, County Tyrone.
Mr McMenamin’s party colleague, Eamon O’Neill, who chairs the party’s Assembly Group has expressed his disgust at the graffiti.
Mr O’Neill said: “This type of incident is deeply worrying coming as it does only weeks after two cars were set alight outside Mr McMenamin’s home. There is clearly a campaign of intimidation being orchestrated against Eugene. I must make clear however that the SDLP will not be intimidated by such behaviour. We will not be prevented or deterred from carrying out our duties for the good of the whole community. We will continue to work towards ensuring a new beginning to policing.”
SDLP party leader Mark Durkan said the incident was “absolutely deplorable.”
“Eugene McMenamin has been a dedicated public representative and I would like to pay tribute to his and his family’s courage. Incidents like this one will not silence the SDLP. We will continue to support the new beginning to Policing which this party has been working diligently to bring about.”

SDLP's Dominic Bradley To Retire Next Year
SDLP Assembly Member Dominic Bradley MLA has announced that he is to retire from frontline politics at the next election. Mr Bradley has been an SDLP Assembly Member since 2003. He said he believed it was now time to pass on the baton to other SDLP representatives in the Constituency.
