Appeal Following City Centre Attack

Detectives in Belfast have appealed for information following an incident during which an 18-year-old man was struck in the face with a broken bottle in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Initial enquiries suggest that the man was in a taxi in the area of St George's Market at around 12.30am when a group of youths approached the vehicle.

It is believed that one of these youths attempted to pull the victim from the car and another struck him in the face with a broken bottle.

The victim sustained a number of injuries to his face, mouth and ear.

One of the males is described as around 5' 2" in height with black hair and a piercing to his left ear. He was wearing a grey tracksuit with green stripes on both arms.

Detectives investigating this assault are keen to speak to witnesses and would ask anyone who was in the area to contact them at Musgrave Street CID by calling 0845 600 8000.

Alternatively information about crime can be given anonymously by calling the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
