Police Appeal For Information On Shot Swan

There has been an appeal for help after the shooting of a Mute Swan near Castlewellan, Co Down.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland is appealing for information about the incident, which is reported to have left the swan's partner alone on the lake.

The swan - similar to that pictured here - was found dead at the pond on the Drumlee Road, after it was reported to police on 1st April. The incident, that breaks the Wild Life Order of Northern Ireland, was condemned by the police Inspector for the Newcastle area, Eamonn Andrews.

"This is not only a crime against our local wildlife but against everyone, as our natural heritage belongs to us all.

"Anyone involved in this type of behavior risks being report to the Public Prosecution Service," he said.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of George Gilmore
A 39-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the murder of George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore, aged 44, was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday, 13 March. He died from his injuries in hospital the following day, 14 March. The suspect was detained in Co Antrim on Wednesday, 12 April, and is being questioned at Musgrave police station.
