Shaws Workers Vote For Strike
Employees at the 16 outlets of Shaws department stores have today voted for strike action against cost saving measures.
Worker's union Mandate claims the introduction of cost-saving measures by the company weren't agreed too by staff.
A spokesman for the union said Shaws are planning to cut working hours for employees, adding the company had refused to pay the terms of the National Wage Agreement.
The union claims that Shaws is still profitable and has accused them of using the recession as a means make more profit by reducing the living standards of their workers.
Approximately 87% of staff at the retailer voted in favour of the action.
In other news the Mandate Trade Union also confirmed today that Tesco workers were suspending their picket of the Douglas store with immediate effect.
The union said they had accepted an invitation from the Labour Relations Commission to attend conciliation services with Tesco with no preconditions.
