Green's MEP Hopeful Promises Thousands Of NI Building Jobs

Green Party MEP candidate Steven Agnew has said tens of thousands of jobs could be created in the construction sector under a 'Green New Deal' for Northern Ireland.

Mr Agnew said the adoption of the scheme across Europe could stimulate over five million jobs.

He said: "A vote for me will be a vote for the 'Green New Deal' which has the potential of creating thousands of jobs for electricians, fitters, plumbers, engineers, construction workers, project workers, sales and marketing staff."

Mr Agnew said Northern Ireland currently imports 98% of its energy, despite having "vast natural resources in wind, biomass and tidal".

The European candidate said if the political will existed 33,000 jobs could be created.

"The Greens in Europe are calling for a Renewables Community (ERENE) to support the long term goal of 100% energy from renewable sources," added Mr Agnew.
