Minister Announces £2m Moyle Roads Investment
A £2m roads investment programme has been unveiled for the Moyle area.
Transport Minister Conor Murphy (pictured) said the scheme would include the proposed £150,000 resurfacing project on 1km of road on Rathlin Island.
"Other schemes which will be taken forward in the Moyle area this year include traffic calming measures at Straidbilly Primary School, Liscolman and at St. Patrick's & St. Bridget's Primary School, Ballycastle," said the Minister.
"Collision remedial measures, such as improved signage and lining, are also proposed for Moyarget Road," he said.
Mr Murphy welcomed the road maintenance schemes progressed in the Moyle area last year.
He said this year's increased allocation for structural maintenance would allow a larger number of resurfacing schemes to proceed on local roads.
Road Service’s Principal Engineer, Terry Fulton, welcomed the planned investment in local transport.
Mr Fulton also highlighted some of the schemes that were completed in 2008/09.
He said: "These include the provision of a footway from Main Street, Waterfoot, along Glenariff Road to Foriff Caravan Park, incorporating the provision of a VRS between the carriageway and the Glenariff River; traffic calming measures have been implemented at Shore Road, Cushendall; improvements to the signage and lining along the A2 Ballycastle to Waterfoot; and new school warning signs have been erected at St. Patrick's Primary School, Waterfoot, under the Safe Routes to School Programme."

Heavy Snow Closes Over 80 Schools
Over 80 schools across Northern Ireland have been closed as the heavy snow continues to cause disruption on Tuesday morning. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, as the snow is continuing to affect many roads. Areas which have been majorly disrupted include Lisburn, Castlereagh and Carryduff.

Local roads get record £80m spend
A record £80 million will be spent on structural roads maintenance this year across Northern Ireland. The figure was revealed by Deputy Divisional Roads Manager, Tom McCourt as he presented DRD Roads Service’s autumn report to Newtownabbey Borough Council. Mr McCourt said: "This is a huge increase in investment over previous years.
