Trio Charged Over Lisburn Murder

Three men have appeared before a magistrates court charged with the murder of 20-year-old Darren Roberts in Lisburn.

Mr Roberts was stabbed to death while on the city's Millbrook Road at around 2am on Saturday morning. A teenager was also assaulted in the attack.

Diarmaid Paul Anderson, 19, of Peel Gardens, Ballinderry and Stephen Allister, 21, Rushmore Crescent, Lisburn were today accused of Mr Roberts' murder.

Mr Allister is also accused of attacking the injured youth, causing grievous bodily harm.

A solicitor representing David Curran, 23, of South Link, Andersonstown - who is also charged with the murder - said his client strongly denied it.

A detective told the court - under cross examination by Mr Curran's defence lawyer - that prosecution witnesses said Mr Curran was not involved in the actual physical attack.

However, the officer said the charge was based on "joint venture".

There were angry scenes as the men were led from the dock. One man had to be restrained from lunging at the accused.
