Noisy 'Copters Unwanted: SF

A Sinn Féin Limavady Councillor has called for the immediate end to low flying Army helicopters over Ballykelly and Magilligan. Paddy Butcher said that the practice cannot be justified under any circumstances and certainly not as training for the British war in Afghanistan. "The helicopters are a cause of great disturbance for local residents and families. I have heard reports that children have been frightened by the noise caused and many who had thankfully never had this experience before were unnecessarily frightened. We don't need to be going back to the days of these low flights. It is completely unacceptable that the British army are using this airspace for training for operations in Afghanistan. The people of Ballykelly and Magilligan have the right not to be treated as 'guinea pigs’, especially as this training will be used to intimidate Afghanis during the British military occupation there," he said, insisting that "the British Army is an occupying force".

West Belfast man Gabriel Ferguson, who is Fire Service Assistant Group Commander, said the fire was started deliberately: "These cylinders are not toys, I can't emphasise how dangerous this practice is."

Mens' Health In Focus

This is the focus of UCF's annual Man Alive! conference, supported by the communications company, which takes place today, Tuesday, as part of Mens' Health Week. The conference venue is NICVA Buildings, Duncairn Gardens, Belfast from 9.30am – 4.00pm.

Minister Outlines Benefits Of £20m M2 Works

The £20m Belfast M2 improvements scheme has been officially opened as NI Roads Minister Conor Murphy said the improvements the strategic route would deliver huge benefits for the local economy. "The M2 improvements scheme represents a significant investment in the strategic road network, which I am sure will improve the efficiency of the transport system and help to strengthen the local economy, particularly at this difficult time," he said. "The scheme will greatly improve journey times for all traffic between Belfast, Antrim, the Port of Larne and Belfast International Airport, and, importantly, it will significantly improve journey time reliability on this route for the freight transport industry."
