Ruby Murray's Top 20 Record Remains
Well over five decades after the chart record was achieved, Belfast singer Ruby Murray is still Top of The Pops - despite a near miss last week by the late Michael Jackson.
In March 1955, Ruby Murray (pictured) had five songs in the top 20 at once - Heartbeat, Happy Days and Lonely Nights, Softly Softly, Let Me Go Lover and If Anyone Finds This I Love You.
Then, just days after the death of a music legend, Michael Jackson, and Ruby's record seemed set to be shattered as fans rushed to relive their musical memories by downloading his hits and propelling six into the top 20.
But Jackson only went as far as equalling Ruby's record with five of his songs - Man in the Mirror, Billie Jean, Thriller, Smooth Criminal and Beat It - registering in the top 20.
In the event, Michael was also pipped to number one by Euro-pop act Cascada, although 13 of his songs are in the top 40.
Ruby Murray's long-standing record has resisted sales surges prompted by the deaths of iconic figures from Elvis Presley to Freddie Mercury.
Ruby was born on the Donegall Road in Belfast and remains one of the city's biggest stars but ended up a tragic figure who succumbed to alcoholism and was estranged from her family.
