Stab Death: Two Held
Two men have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a homeless man in north Belfast.
George Morrison, 29, of no fixed address, suffered a number of stab wounds in the attack, which took place in the early hours of Monday morning.
Initially police said they had held one man, but have since arrested another.
The men - one aged 46 and another said to be in his forties - were last night being questioned.
Yesterday, shocked residents gathered around the police cordon which surrounded Brookhill Avenue and Allworthy Avenue off the Cliftonville Road as forensic officers gathered evidence from the scene.
Mr Morrison was found lying bleeding close to the junction of Brookhill and Allworthy at around 2.30am by a taxi driver who telephoned emergency services.
Police searches of an apartment block in Duncairn Gardens were also being carried out yesterday in relation to the stabbing.
Sinn Féin councillor for the area, Danny Lavery said Mr Morrison "came from a good family", originally in the New Lodge area, but had suffered some "hard times, and was down-and-out".
Also commenting, North Belfast MP Nigel Dodds said the incident was "shocking".
"This is an appalling tragedy and our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased," the DUP man said.
Detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the Brookhill Avenue or Allworthy Avenue area around the time of the incident to contact them.
They are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed a row taking place on Monday night.
