LA Fitness unveils record jump in profits
UK health club chain LA Fitness has credited its popular in-house training programmes as resulting in a record jump in profits.
The company, which has a fitness centre in Belfast's Ramada Hotel, revealed that pre-tax profits for the six months to 31 January climbed to £3m - 38 per cent up on the same period one year earlier. Turnover, meanwhile, soared by 78 per cent during the last twelve months to £21m, boosted by a 65 per cent surge in membership figures.
LA Fitness chairman Peter Jacobs credited the company's success to a policy of offering training programmes to members.
LA Fitness, which runs 46 gyms in the UK, opened a club in Barcelona last month, its first in mainland Europe - while further expansion is planned in the UK and Spain. The company says it is well on its way to achieving a total number of 74 clubs by July next year. (MB)
