Antrim House Bombed

A pipe bomb has been thrown at a house with a family still inside. The device caused damage to the front of the property in the Brantwood Gardens area of Antrim where a family-of-five were at home. It happened shortly before 4am on Friday, but no one was injured.

Wife Faces Murder Charge

A woman has appeared in court in Belfast charged with murdering her husband. It is alleged to have happened at their north Belfast home and follows the body of Polish national Piotr Rafacz, 29, being found last Saturday. The victim was in a Cliftonville Road flat where the couple lived with their three-year-old son. Teresa Rafacz, 28, appeared alongside her brother Pawel Czop, 26, of Clifton Crescent, who was accused of assisting her by moving the victim's body. Both were remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing next week.

Organised Crime Targeted

Cash and documents are among the items seized by HM Revenue and Customs this week along with the arrests of five men and a woman in connection with a suspected multi-million pound money laundering fraud. They were linked to the fight against organised crime, including drug trafficking. Almost £100,000 in cash, computers and telephones were seized by the customs officers and police at five private premises and a money service business in Co Down and Antrim. Business and financial records were also seized during the raids.

Parades Appointment

There's a new member of the Parades Commission. The NIO Secretary of State Shaun Woodward announced the appointment of Edwin Graham after a vacancy occurred when Rena Shepherd moved up and replaced Roger Poole as Chair of the Commission. He made the appointment from the reserve list of appointable candidates identified during the open competition held in May 2008. Edwin Graham has spent his career as a committed community worker and is involved with all sections of the community in Northern Ireland.

Cross-Border Dispensing 'Out'

Pharmacists in Northern Ireland have been advised not to get involved in a dispute over drug fees in the Republic. As hundreds of pharmacists in the Republic prepare to withdraw services to patients who have medicines paid for by the government in the dispute over fees, the pharmacists body in NI has told its members not to take over the contracts, as to do so would present "all sorts of problems." Belfast Gets 'Time Machine'

A time capsule - containing items that will be meaningful to future generations - is to be buried inside Belfast City Hall. The sealing of the capsule, which will have its contents revealed again 103 years from now, will mark the reopening of the city's iconic building this autumn. Members of the public are being asked to come up with ideas of everyday objects and images they think should be included. Lord Mayor, Councillor Naomi Long, urged local residents to have their say about how the Belfast of 2009 can best be represented.

Gas Price Cut Welcomed

The Sinn Féin MLA and Vice Chair of the Assembly Committee for Enterprise Trade and Investment, Jennifer McCann has welcomed reports that Phoenix gas prices may be set to fall in the autumn. "I welcome the news that gas prices may be set to come down," she said, suggesting that wholesale prices have now fallen and that the decrease should match that "to ensure that it is the consumer who benefits fully from the overall drop in wholesale prices".
