Meath Suffers Largest Dole Increase

Co Meath experienced the largest increase in people signing on the dole last month, according to the latest Live Register figures in the Irish Republic.

The statistics agency revealed last week that an extra 17,000 people had signed on the register last month, an increase of more than 4%.

Increases were recorded in all counties, with the numbers signing on in Co Meath up 5.4%.

Wexford experienced the smallest increase, registering a rate of 2.3%.

Pace Of Unemployment Slows
The latest figures from the Dublin government statistics office have revealed the number of people signing on has slowed to its lowest rate of increase so far this year. The Central Statistics Office said the number of people signing on for benefits last month had increased by 4,321 in August. This compares with a rise of more than 17,000 in July.

The Live Register figures for December 2013, which were published today, show a seasonally adjusted monthly fall of 3,300 people signing on but also indicate continued difficulties for women seeking employment, according to SIPTU Economist, Marie Sherlock.

Slight Decrease In Unemployment Figures
On a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register total recorded a monthly decrease of 1,000 in October 2012, in the number of people signing on. The standardised unemployment rate (SUR) in October 2012 was 14.8%, unchanged from the latest September 2012 rate, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

Live Register Figures Increase in August
According to recent figures the amount of people signing on the live register in Ireland has increased for the fourth consecutive month. The seasonally adjusted figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) have revealed that the number of people signing on the Live Register rose in August by 1,600 or 0.4%.
