Loyalist Taxi Boss Bankrupt
A prominent north Belfast loyalist has been declared bankrupt.
Jackie Mahood, who ran a taxi firm in the city, allegedly became a target for rival loyalists in the area wanting a "bigger slice of the cake".
Mr Mahood's business premises and vehicles were attacked several times. He had applied for criminal damage compensation from the Northern Ireland Office but a discretionary pay-out was refused.
The convicted paramilitary is now appealing the Government's decision.
Mahood served 15 years in prison for firearms and wounding with intent offences in the 1970s.
He later claimed credit for brokering a deal between feuding paramilitaries, as part of a loyalist commission, suggesting he had turned his life around.
Mahood was shot and seriously injured in an attack in 1997, with continued death threats allegedly issued to his depot drivers.
An official bankruptcy notice for Mahood, of Ainsworth Avenue, was published on Friday.
When contacted by the BBC, Mahood said he had "no comment" to make.

The PSNI received a report that a black Audi A1 was being driven erratically in the Albert Street area just before 3am on Tuesday morning, 06 June. The car had previously been stolen in a creeper-style burglary in Newtownabbey.
