Roads Toll Hits 82

The death toll on Northern Ireland's roads is mounting with news that an 18-year-old has died following a road accident outside Ballycastle in Co Antrim. He was Mark McKeegan from Cushendall and he died after being hit by a car about one mile from the town on the Cushendall Road. A police spokeswoman said the accident was reported at 3am on Sunday. Police have also said the incident is not being treated as a hit-and-run and have appealed for information. Mr McKeegan's death brings the total number of people to have lost their lives on Northern Ireland's roads so far this year to 82. There were 73 fatalities this time last year.

Murder Victim's Family Attacked

The daughter of a man killed in loyalist feuding has been attacked in her home. The mother and her four children escaped injury after a gang of masked men broke into their home in the Shankill area of Belfast. It is the second time Tracey Coulter's home in Shankill Terrace has been attacked. Ms Coulter said loyalists were to blame for the attack on Monday night and said it comes on foot of fresh investigations into her dad's murder. Jackie Coulter died in a feud nine years ago with his family still blaming the Ulster Volunteer Force for his murder.

Lisburn Rape 'Appeal'

A Co Antrim teenage girl has been raped. It happened on a tow path in Lisburn where the police said a man attacked the girl on the path at some point between 8pm and 9pm on Sunday. Officers appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time to contact them and said that the assault happened behind a bar near Union Bridge.

Boy Shot

A teenage boy is in hospital after he was shot. It happened at his home outside west Belfast when four masked men broke into the property on Glasvey Drive, in Twinbrook, at about 10pm on Monday. The 17-year-old was shot in his ankle and his arm was also injured. No one else was in the house at the time of the shooting.

Cave Hill Fall Girl 'Crtitical'

A teenager who suffered severe head injuries after falling from Belfast's Cave Hill remains critically ill. The 17-year-old girl, who was camping with friends, fell about 20 metres from Napoleon's Nose down a cliff into deep undergrowth. It was reported shortly after 1.30am on Sunday and about 25 firefighters were involved in a rescue operation. The incident comes just days after a nine-year-old boy was injured after falling from Cave Hill while out walking with his father.

Gardens Go Gastro

Belfast's picturesque Botanic Gardens is to host a show for gardeners and gastronomes alike later this month. The eighth annual 'Garden Gourmet' extravaganza takes place over the weekend of Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September. The colourful centrepiece of Belfast City Council's Autumn Flower Show, the biggest in NI will be displays of thousands of colourful prize blooms, alongside exhibits of amazing monster-size vegetables and prize-winning fuchsias, fruit, roses, bonsai, cacti, and other delights from local gardens, allotments, greenhouses, wine cellars and bee hives. There also will be an opportunity to sample an extensive menu of local produce, as well as food from around the world to tease and excite those taste buds, including cookery demonstrations, with local chef, Wendy Donaldson, who will be sharing tips, secrets and recipe ideas.

Seal Of Danger

A Co Down seal rescue centre has been inundated with orphaned animals this summer and nearly had to move some of the pups elsewhere. The Northern Ireland Aquarium at Exploris in Portaferry said it has been its second busiest common seal season in its 20-year history. The rehabilitation centre is caring for 10 orphaned common seals with more expected as common seals pup in June and July, but grey seals don't start to pup until September, making them vulnerable to the more tempestuous weather conditions in the latter part of the year.

28-Year-Old Arrested In Connection With Violent Ballymena Attack
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a stabbing incident in Ballymena. A man is being treated in hospital for serious injuries to his head, neck and stomach after he was reportedly attacked at his home in the Grove Road area. The incident is said to have taken place shortly after 4am this morning.

Vicious Attack Leaves Woman With Brain Bleed
A woman has been left with serious injuries in hospital after she was brutally attacked last weekend. Police said the female was walking in west Belfast early on Saturday 19 January when three unknown females carried out the unprovoked attack.

Roads Service to spend £6M on improvements
The Roads Service is to invest £4 million into the Armagh district and £2 million in the Newtownabbey area over the next twelve months, it has been revealed today.
