Sport Hits NI Movie Screens
A special weekend season of sports-themed films and events will take place in Belfast later this month.
Running from Thursday 24th to Sunday 27th September, the weekend will feature a series of free sports and Olympic themed screenings, and a large scale film event at Queen's Physical Education Centre.
Queen's Film Theatre (QFT) and Jameson Belfast Film Festival are behind the event, which is funded by Legacy Trust UK, an independent charity set up to help build a lasting cultural and sporting legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Susan Picken, Head of QFT said: "With its unique combination of hopes and dreams, winning and losing, sport has always provided a rich seam of inspiration for film-makers.
"From Olympia to Chariots of Fire to When We Were Kings and Raging Bull, some of the greatest films ever made have featured a sporting theme.
"Our aim with Game On! is to showcase some fantastic sports films and to give audiences a taste of sporting activities, both on and off-screen," she said.
Examples include Bend It Like Beckham, starring Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley (pictured) as aspiring young footballers, which takes to the screen on Saturday 26th September.
The Olympic spirit of 1924 is brought to life once again as the multi-Oscar winning classic Chariots of Fire takes to the starting blocks on Sunday 27th September.
