Tree Death Girl May Have Been Electrocuted
A six-year-old girl has died after falling from a tree in Derry.
Police have not ruled out the possibility the child was electrocuted.
Tragic Tia Nagurski was playing in her Ballymagroarty back yard yesterday evening when she fell.
It is believed the tree she had climbed was close to power cables.
Tia was rushed to hospital bit later died.
One city councillor claimed the tree was entwined with electricity lines.
Sinn Fein's Billy Page said: "(The trees) are on a high banking, so when the child is on the banking she is up a number of feet.
"She hadn't to go very far up into the tree."
Tia's family has been left devastated by the incident, a local priest said.
"It is a parent's nightmare that anything would happen to their child," added Father Sean McKenna.
NIE has offered it sympathies to the Nagurski family.
Safety and Risk Manager Roy Coulter said: "On behalf of Northern Ireland Electricity, I would like to offer every sympathy to the family of the victim of this tragic accident.
"NIE is co-operating fully with the PSNI and the Health and Safety Executive in their investigations," he added.
