Station Closures Denied
A senior police officer has dismissed claims that plans are afoot to shut three Antrim police stations.
Assistant Chief Constable Alistair Finlay clarified earlier comments made by District Commander Chief Superintendent Henry Irvine on the future of PSNI stations in Hillsborough, Randalstown and Ballyclare.
Mr Finlay said his colleague's statement at a District Policing Partnership meeting had been taken out of context, adding all three stations would remain open for 'the foreseeable future'.
Mr Irvine had said there were plans to review the status of the stations, however, this does not mean they will close, Mr Finlay explained.
Plans to sell off 26 stations have already been approved by the Policing Board, while a further 26 are under strategic review.
Hillsborough, Randalstown and Ballyclare are not currently under review, Mr Finlay said, despite conceding their status is continually assessed.
"This is a dynamic list of properties that will move as the service delivery structures move," he said.
"The stations are a small part of that and the focus is more in terms of service delivery."
The ACC downplayed suggestions the PSNI was making cutbacks amid a growing threat from dissident republicans.
"Police stations in themselves don't deliver that reassurance - policing does that, and policing is delivered by people," said Mr Finlay.
