USA/NI Economic Envoy Appointed

Northern Ireland business leaders are expected to meet the new US business envoy in Belfast later today.

Tipperary-born Declan Kelly (pictured here) was only appointed by American Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the weekend.

The 41-year-old will serve as the Secretary's economic envoy to the province.

A former PR boss, Mr Kelly played a key roles in Mrs Clinton's presidential bid last year. He is lately vice-president of global business consultants FTI, and the brother of Irish Labour MEP Ryan Kelly.

The new envoy, who will hold talks in Belfast later, also serves on the boards of several philanthropic and community-based organisations.

His interests mainly focus on Irish issues, including the American Ireland Fund.

Mr Kelly is also chairman of the US Foundation Board of NUI Galway, where he once studied.

Boy Stable Following Scrambler Collision
A nine-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after being hit by a scrambler in Newtownabbey. The collision happened at Mossley Pavilion on the Carnmoney Road at around 8.45pm on Monday, 03 October, The boy is in a stable condition, according to the Belfast Trust.
